Iceber.gs, first of all, they were pretty crafty when they had to choose their domain name. I came across iceber.gs the other day and really loved how the video on the site explains what they do. Essentially its a new form of bookmarking pages, thoughts, pictures, files etc. Its still new to the scene, so it is currently in private beta, but i’m definitely planning on requesting an invite.

What’s great about it is the ability to just drag and drop files from your browser window or desktop, whether it’s an image or documents from an email, or even highlighted text on a page and it will save them to your account. You also have the ability to create new text documents as well, writing yourself notes for future reference. The documents that you save, you can then organize into there own sub-categories. So this site is perfect for us creatives who really need to be well organized in order to think properly. That’s really all I can find out about this site, until I receive an invite, but I figured I would put the word out now so you can be considered some of the first users of iceber.gs.

Hey world, if you every miss the feeling of learning/experiencing something new from a class, then let me introduce you to Skillshare, a unique way of “learning anything from anyone, anywhere.” It’s a new site that lets visitors choose from a list of user-created classes that cover a wide range of topics; a few examples being Creative Arts, Technology and Entreprenuership. The classes are physical, in that there is a time and place specified to meet up in order to attend the class. And don’t worry if your schedule conflicts with the time then just track it on your watchlist to see when it may be offered again. A new addition to the site is the option for taking ‘Courses,’ released in February, ‘Courses’ are more in depth classes to teach you even more about your passion. Being so new to the world, Skillshare classes are are currently only available in NYC, along with limited classes in California, Minnesota and Massachusetts; but it is well on its way to reaching a national level.

Skillshare is also always looking for teachers or talented individuals looking to pass their skills along. It gives you the resources to design a class to your liking and then  invite others to attend. You can choose to teach the class only once, or hopefully more than once, reaching out to a large population of learners. You will also design your own personal profile, where you will include your experience in that field so others can see if your class will be a good match for them. And don’t forget, this is also a paid opportunity, these students pay to take your class, so think of it as a part time job teaching something that you are passionate about.

Skillshare was created because of the growing debt crisis from student loans, and the large percentage of jobs that still only require a high school diploma, yet you just spent thousands of dollars to get your degree in that field. This weeks posting is for The Idealists, who truly live up to their name. It’s a website for the ‘elite’, so to speak, only granting member invitations to communication professionals with a proven portfolio of work at a national/international level. But it won’t stop me from admiring their site. The functionality is pretty simple, once you receive an invitation, you are granted permission to create your own profile page, where you answer questions about your developed skills. When a project arises that is matched to your skills, you will receive an email telling you about the project, and from there you can decide if you want to work on it or not.

Members range all the way from freelancers to global agencies, some featured users of The Idealists include Viacom, Levi’s, Coca-Cola , Sephora and Nike. If you’re lucky enough to receive an invitation to join, keep in mind that there is a 10% commission fee for all of the projects that you create. Hey recent grads! In the age where jobs have become harder and harder to find,  a new start up has emerged that will recommend job positions for you based on your skills and talents. Path.to is a new type of social networking, that will find compatible jobs available in your field and based on where you are located. Once you receive the recommendations, you can go ahead and start setting up those interviews. But take note the more your page is complete, the more accurate the recommendations are, so be as thorough about your work experience and skills as you can be. It’s pretty easy to fill out your profile page too, especially if you are an avid social network user. You can connect to Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter; it will pull your work history and other personal information that you want included and import it to your profile page. This will make your time way more productive.

The recommended jobs are based on compatability, but the list will continue to evolve based on your preferences and developing talent.  So as you continue to update your profile and social network accounts, watch the job recommendations fly in. Good Luck!

“Drop it like it’s hot.” At least that’s what Dropmark tells you to do when you use their product. Dropmark is the new, innovative way to share documents and collaborate on projects. As of March 1st, Dropmark became available to all users after successfully completing their beta testing this past year. Their interface is wonderfully simple to use; drag photos, videos, documents, websites, text (essentially anything that you would like) from your desktop and place it into the specified collection on your browser window. The files are automatically uploaded and you have the choice to share it with anyone that you like or keep it to yourself. You can also invite collaborators, who can can upload their own files to the same collection. This makes project management much more efficient. And if you’re looking to make the workplace a little more inspiring, you can also create playlists or podcasts in your dropmark account to share with your co-workers.

Every collection has a built-in RSS Feed, so anytime something new has been added, users in that collection will be notified. Dropmark is now also integrated with Courier, available through the app store, which makes it so you can add to a collection without even opening your browser window. Sharing files has become so easy over the past few years, and now there are so many options to use, but if you are looking for an easy, efficient way to share files and collaborate on projects, go with Dropmark. The world is starting to talk about Biogrify, a fun, new site currently in Beta Testing that launched earlier this year. Many are calling it the next Instragram, with its ability to tell your life through some form of visual aid. Although instead of photos, Biogrify creates visually stunning infographics that are continually growing and evolving.

Now, I wasnt able to dig up too much information on how to use Biogrify, since I am still waiting to be invited in as a user, but it appears to be slowly heading down the road to becoming the next big social network. After creating your own social profile,  you can then begin to share moments of your life. The characteristic that I personally like, is that the amount of information you can visually represent appears to be endless. It ranges from important life moments like your high school graduation to when you last ate dessert and how many hours of television you watched today.  Biogrify will certainly get its clientele for its creativity and subtle humor. We all have them,  those boxes of old family photos and embarrassing life moments stashed away somewhere. They may be in an old photo album in the basement or hidden in a shoebox under the bed; they are our perfect source to relive some of our most cherished and not-so-cherished memories. Now, what if you could share those moments with others in a digital format? Now I am not talking about posting to Facebook or keeping them in an iPhoto folder; I am talking about 1000Memories, a tool that posts your old family photos online in a digital ‘shoebox’.  You can combine photos from a specific event, or part of your life into the ‘shoebox’, where others that you know can comment, edit or upload photos they have from that same shared experience. It’s a great tool for filling in the missing pieces for memories long forgotten, or pieces of your family history.

After downloading their app, your iphone will turn into a high-resolution scanner that will scan the photos of your choosing and post them to your account. You can then create any type of ‘shoebox’ that you want and also change the privacy setting of each ‘shoebox’ so that only specific people can access those photos. Now if you’ve already checked out the site, then you realized that it looks a lot like Pinterest in its overall design and functionality. “Shoeboxes” of course looking nearly identical to “Pin Boards” and how the home page uses the same staggered photo effect that Pinterest does. But hey, it has a more personal touch to it and even Mark Zuckerberg loved it so much that it is now being integrated with Facebook. So maybe the Pinterest “style” is the look of the future in social media design, who knows? But take a gander at 1000Memories and see for yourself.

This week I have a fun little website, which will be interesting to see where it progresses. Let me introduce you to Sweat for a Cause, a new social network that uses your physical capabilities as a tool to provide funds for non-profit groups.

Based out of Brookline, MA, Sweat for a Cause allows users to raise money for their favorite non-profits by participating in online fitness challenges. Each user creates a profile page that shows your current fitness challenge and who you are fundraising for. It will also show past challenges that you’ve participated in and whether or not you’ve met the end goal. Now these challenges can be pretty simple or extensive depending on how fit you are, so you can choose a challenge that suits your physical capabilities. Participation does involve a $5 donation to the benefiting cause, but hey it’s for a good cause. Once the challenge is selected and the donation is made, its time to work out. Each challenge last’s a week, so make sure you stay on top of it and update your progress on the groups leader board. Invite your friends and see who can make it out on top.

So if you’re looking to give back to the world in some small way, this is the way to go. Keep in mind that Sweat for a Cause is currently in BETA, so you do have to request an invitation to join the site.
