peterellis Own your website content

copyright image for website contentMany online marketing experts and social media gurus will tell you to utilize the power of free advertisement and global reach of social media networks such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and many others. I give the same advise to our customers in their journey to grow their business online.

One thing that I always remind them is to use the social networking websites as a vehicle to broadcast their content, but not necessarily as a tool for housing that content.

I don’t think that Twitter and Facebook are going away (at least not any time soon), but content posted/created on those websites stay with them.

I believe that it’s a good practice to use your website and/or blog to create and house your content, and then, broadcast it across the gamut of networking websites. This way you always have new and rich content boosting your business’ web presents and, at the same time, you are utilizing that power of global reach through your favorite social networking websites.

I would love to hear your feedback on this subject – follow the conversation and leave your feedback on our Facebook Page.

Steph Web Wednesday – November 30, 2011

Web Wednesdays – each Wednesday we will feature a website that we’ve come across while in our process of searching for inspiration, the latest trends, or learning about anything and everything we can get our hands on that interests us.

Wow! I can’t believe it’s the last day of November already (don’t forget to check back tomorrow for our December Wallpaper). For this week’s Web Wednesday I am posting about, Pinterest.com; a newly developed social network site connecting people through common interests. Once you receive the invitation to log in, you can start creating your own ‘Pin Board’, a collection of interests that you have found online or through the Pinterest site that other people have posted. Some people have used it to plan weddings, and find creative DIY home projects. Others have used it for their daily dose of inspiration (ehem like myself) while others use it to collect yummy recipes. The possibilities are endless and the site is amazingly simple to use. If you are looking for something specific you can use the search bar to help narrow down the results or you can view what is ‘trending’ on the main Bulletin Board. You can also add the Pinterest Button to the browser that you are using, so anytime you find something creative to share with the world, click the button and it will be added to your Pin Board.

You can also download the free Pinterest App from the App Store and access the site through your smartphone. This site is also great for businesses to promote the products that they sell. By putting the Pinterest Button on your product page, any visitor to your site can click to add the product to their Pin Board and generate more activity for your site.

I’m really impressed by this site, and I have developed a slight addiction, so I figured I would pass it on, Enjoy!

Happy Almost-Thanksgiving everyone! With Black Friday upon us, I thought it was a great idea to post about Mint.com, an easy way to manage your monthly spending and save more money in the long run. The app brings all of your financial accounts together online or on your mobile device. From there it can calculate monthly spending budgets in any category of your choosing and achieve your savings goals. Mint.com is a free app available at the app store, and it will notify you when bills are due through text message or email, so you never have to suffer through those late fees again.

Another great money saving feature on Mint.com is if you are looking into obtaining a loan or credit card, Mint.com will compare recommended loans/credit card companies based on your specific qualifications and find the best option for you. And who doesn’t love saving money? So I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving Holiday knowing now that you can save even more money for those early bird specials on BlackFriday.

Its Wednesday again! Today we are looking at Treehouse, which is a great tool for students and young professionals who are looking to improve their design/development capabilities. There site shows users how to develop a website from the initial stages of design all the way to functionality. The site even offers tutorials on how to build apps for the iPhone and iPad, so you can convert that website you just created into an app. Pretty nifty!

We also love how the website effectively teaches users by treating it like a ‘game.’ By watching the tutorials and taking the tests, you can then unlock badges once you have mastered a particular trade. Sounds pretty addicting to me. So for any of you out there that wants to learn more about website functionality, or even the foundations of design, I would recommend taking advantage of Treehouse and you’ll be a master in no time.
