Web Wednesdays – October 26, 2011

Web Wednesdays – each Wednesday we will feature a website that we’ve come across while in our process of searching for inspiration, the latest trends, or learning about anything and everything we can get our hands on that interests us.

Freerice

Web Wednesdays are back! To start us off, I wanted to introduce you to the Freerice Program. I came across this a few years back and thought it would be a nice addition to our blog. I always love it when design & interactivity is capable of doing some good in the world, and this is a prime example.

Freerice is an interactive website that challenges your trivial knowledge. For every question you correctly answer the Freerice program will donate ten grains of rice to impoverished families all over the world. The subjects that you are challenged in range from Language, Math, Geography, Chemistry and more. It may seem too easy at first, but the questions will become more difficult the longer you play the game.

The website itself, has evolved into including multi-language settings, capable of reaching out to other countries for aid. Last year the UN World Food Program picked up the program and updated the sites capabilities to include social networking, groups, rankings and achievements. So now it is accessible through Facebook and twitter, check it out!

The program originally started back in 2007 and has donated an insurmountable number of rice to families. This past month alone, they were able to donate over 100 million grains of rice capable of feeding over 6,000 people in one day.  So I challenge you to visit this site and answer as many questions you are capable of in one sitting, and you will find that before you know it you’re hooked. Enjoy!
