Web Wednesdays – each Wednesday we will feature a website that we’ve come across while in our process of searching for inspiration, the latest trends, or learning about anything and everything we can get our hands on that interests us.

Kickstarter

“Every week, tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the worlds of music, film, art, technology, design, food, publishing and other creative fields.” That’s how Kickstarter, the new social site for raising money, describes what they do. Founded in 2009, Kickstarter is a great tool for people looking to make their creative ideas into a realistic product. How does it work? Well, for those of you looking for the funds to create a project to share with others, you post the idea, along with a deadline and the minimum amount of money you are looking to raise. Hopefully others will respond to your creative idea by pledging their own money to see your project become a reality. But don’t get too excited, you must reach that goal by the deadline, otherwise the money is not exchanged, so let’s dream realistically here.

For those of you who’s project receives the funds, and then some, well a congratulations is in order because their is no limit to the amount of money your project can raise.  That also shows how much faith people have in your creative ideas. Kickstarter will also collect a 5% fee from the projects funding total and only if the goal is met, so keep that in mind.  A great example of a projet funded through Kickstarter was the Tik Tok & LunaTik Watch, (See Image Below) the iPod Nano converted into a wristwatch. So dream big and see what others can do to make those dreams a reality.
